Species at Risk

Since 2006, Heather has worked on management of species at risk at the interface with agriculture on the Canadian Prairies. Co-managing a multi-agency project, conservation practices were developed for 14 species at risk on the Prairies. Subsequent work has added more species, mostly those for which agriculture has the strongest impacts, both positive and negative.

In 2015 to present, Heather has worked with Simply Agriculture Solutions to facilitate implementation of conservation practices on working ranches and farms.

Field Surveys

The core of my work in field surveys is related to existing vegetation composition. The focus may be rare plants, species at risk, invasive plant species, wetland site evaluations, or a complete census of existing species on a site. Range health assessments are also a part of my work, mostly focusing on native prairie or parkland sites.

Previous (and occasionally still) work on resource development assessments has included vegetation, auditory bird surveys, and auditory amphibian surveys.

Ecosystem Management

Management planning for natural ecosystems is part of the work I do. Much of this is focused on park areas and management planning for invasive species and also for species at risk
